Partial and dentures

Partial dentures and full dentures are types of removable dental prosthetics used to replace missing teeth and restore oral function and aesthetics. Here's an overview of each:

1.- Partial Dentures:
• Partial dentures are used when a patient still has some natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw.
• They consist of a metal or acrylic framework that supports artificial teeth (pontics) to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth.
• The framework may have clasps or attachments that anchor onto the remaining natural teeth for stability.
• Partial dentures can improve chewing ability, speech, and aesthetics by replacing missing teeth and preventing neighboring teeth from shifting out of position.
• They are removable, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance.
2.- Full Dentures:
• Full dentures, also known as complete dentures, are used when a patient has lost all of their natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, or both.
• They consist of a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits over the gums and supports a complete set of artificial teeth.
• Full dentures are custom-made to fit the individual's mouth and provide support for facial muscles, which can improve facial appearance and restore proper speech and chewing function.
• They are typically held in place by suction against the gums, but dental adhesives may also be used for added stability.
• Like partial dentures, full dentures are removable for cleaning and maintenance.

Additionally, while dentures are a viable option for tooth replacement, they may not provide the same level of stability and function as dental implants or fixed bridges. Your dentist can help determine the most suitable treatment option based on your individual needs, preferences, and oral health status.
